NEW FACES IN TWO TOWERS: GAMLING

Not a prominent character in the book, in the film this
Rohan warrior played by Hopkins expands to become a
sounding board to Theoden.

"So he would turn to me and say 'Gamling this is not the end,
we will ride again. And I would turn and give him a look
to say 'I'm not sure I believe what you are saying but you are my king ..."

The part involved much sword-fighting and riding. He was fine
with the weapon-swinging but had to have riding lessons.

"I would have to be on the right hand flank of Theoden at the head
of 140 horses holding on to a bloody huge lance and
having to neck-rein a giant horse named Charlie who the
horse team said 'sorry he doesn't neck-rein'. I think it added
something."
